2017 04 03 Canterbury Museum and Art Gallery

We went to Canterbury Museum. I remember a few things from the times we went there with my primary school. What really impressed me was the information about the early Maori people and their way of life. In particular the technology / tools they invented to make their lives easier. I got the impression that for the time they lived, they probably lived quite comfortably and enjoyed life, when they weren't at war of course. What I also found interesting was the information about the Moriori people that were on NZ before the Maori's. Allot of false ideas were and are still spread about them. It turns out that the Moriori are actually descended from the same people as the Maori, only earlier. They got to a point were they did away with war and lived peacefully with each other. It made me wonder how different colinisation would have been if the Maori's didn't show up on NZ and wipe out the Moriori on the mainland.

2017 04 02 Akaroa

We went for a drive to Akaroa.

This is a photo of Lea's pet rabbit Lola the day before.

2017 03 31 Cheviot

We drove up to Cheviot to visit my great uncle and auntie on my mothers side. Geoff, my great uncle, and I caught up on some family history research. He showed me a book that I haven't come across before that John Owen wrote, one of my fifth great grand fathers, title 'Owen's travels into different parts of Europe - in the years 1791 and 1792'. I am really looking forward to reading it.

Later we took a look at Gore bay and its stone beach. It would be a nice place to spend a weekend.

These are the Cathedral Cliffs nearby.

2017 03 30 Orana Park

On this day we went to Orana Wildlife Park. If you are ever in Christchurch this place should be somewhere near the top of your list of things to do. Especially now that they have Gorilla's and these Kea's. Kea's are similar to the crow in intelligence, they spend most of there lives being curious and trying new things. Unfortunately theres only a few thousand left and they will probably be extinct soon.
